Submission Guidelines:

We publish a full range of submissions. Short stories, essays, flash fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry are all welcome.

  • all submissions should be sent by email to pucamagazine@gmail.com and should be attached as a word document or pdf.
  • We feature work from both irish and international writers.
  • WE ACCEPT ONE SUBMISSION PER PERSON PER CATEGORY.
  • The subject line of your email should reflect the category you are submitting to.
  • WE ARE HAPPY TO READ: ONE STORY OR ONE ESSAY OR TWO FLASHES OR UP TO FOUR POEMS.
  • Poetry submissions should be no more than 40 lines.
  • Short story submissions should be between 1000-2500 words.
  • Creative non-fiction should be between 1000-2500 words
  • Flash fiction submissions should be no more than 800 words
  • In your submission email, please include your full name, your contact email and the name of your piece.
  • All submissions will be downloaded and anonymised. Please do not include your name anywhere in your submission document. Unfortunately, any pieces which do not comply will be disregarded.

  • Simultaneous submissions are encouraged but please let us know as soon as your piece has been accepted elsewhere.
  • all pieces must be previously unpublished either online or in print.
  • copyright is the property of the author
  • Púca is a print journal – however, some pieces chosen for publication in print may also be made available on our website at a later date. excerpts MAY ALSO BE POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO PROMOTE AN ISSUE/AUTHOR. WE WILL ALWAYS ASK FOR A WRITER’S PERMISSION BEFORE PUBLISHING THEIR WORK ONLINE.
  • We are not interested in publishing pieces that have been generated in whole, or in part, by artifical intelligence.
  • for practical and economic reasons, we discourage the use of images unless integral to a piece.
  • If your work was featured in our most recent issue, we ask that you wait a submission round before submitting again.
  • we aim to respond to all submissions within three months of the deadline, if not sooner.
  • as of issue five, púca now offers payment for published work. at present, we do not receive external assistance/financial support. Those whose work is received via our submission call will receive a flat fee of €20 each. We hope to increase this in the future. contributors also receive a copy of the issue that their work was featured in.
